If it’s one thing that The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel isn’t lacking it’s romance. Though Midge has spent most of the show married, there have been plenty of men vying for her attention throughout the show’s three seasons. Naturally, fans of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel are split on who they’d like Midge to end up with. Some feel that Joel, her ex-husband, is the right man for her. Others are drawn to the charming doctor, Benjamin, who seemed to not only accept Midge for who she is, but appreciate it. And, of course, some fans are hoping that’s she’ll end up with fellow comedian, Lenny Bruce.
Lenny has been a character that has been around since the very first season of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. Midge becomes fascinated by Lenny’s stand up acts and how he uses the stage as an opportunity to speak the truth regardless of the consequences. After she bails him out of jail, the pair strike up a rapport which continues as they continuously run into one another.

The relationship between Midge and Lenny is a complex one. In some ways they are peers, but in others Lenny actually serves as a mentor for Midge who is able to help boost her career after she is blackballed in NYC. The chemistry between Lenny and Midge seemed to come to a boil in the 5th episode of season 3, “It’s Comedy or Cabbage.” When the pair run into each other in Miami, it becomes very clear that there has always been something romantic between Midge and Lenny brewing under the surface. But if the chemistry is so strong, then why didn’t anything happen between the pair? In an interview with Gold Derby, Rachel Brosnahan, who plays Midge on The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, shared her thoughts about why Midge made the decision not to take things further with Lenny in Miami. In Brosnahan’s eyes, Midge is hesitant to screw up what they have.

“Lenny is one of the few relationships in this new version of her life that means the most to her,” the star of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel shared. “I think she idolizes Lenny as a comic. I think she wants to be a comic like him and I think she feels the weight of the risk of putting that relationship in danger by changing what it is. Neither of them are really in a place in their lives, and they both acknowledge this, where they want to be in a relationship, and crossing that line, it could be great, but it could really screw things up. And I just think she doesn’t want to go there. She values the relationship as it is too much.”
Will Lenny make more appearances in ‘The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’ Season 4?
It’ll be interesting to see how the writers of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel continue to navigate Midge’s unique relationship with Lenny. But, whether the pair opt for a romantic relationship or not, we’d love to see more of Lenny in season 4.
