ELKINS — A veteran comedian is scheduled to perform during an event benefiting the Elkins-Randolph County YMCA.
Comedian Johnny Watson is scheduled to perform on March 20 at Vintage Restaurant and Wine Bar, located at 25 Randolph Ave. The show is scheduled to begin at 9 p.m. with doors opening at 8:30 p.m.
Waston has appeared on “Saturday Night Live,” Comedy Central, “Good Morning America,” in the film “Killing John Lennon” and in comedy clubs across the U.S., including the Comic Strip Live, Dangerfield’s Comedy Club, New York Comedy Club, Broadway Comedy Club and The Comedy Store in Los Angeles. He also developed the “Johnny Watson Show,” a mother and son variety podcast featuring talented comics and mainstream content.
Watson’s influences include Woody Allen, Chris Rock, Richard Pryor, Ellen Degeneres, Lenny Bruce and Brian Regan. He has gained glowing reviews from club managers and fellow comedians alike.
“A lot of comedians are brilliant, but won’t draw a general audience. Johnny Watson is the great utility guy, who can perform in virtually and place,” long-time comedian and club manager Jeff Jena said of Watson’s work.
“Watson is simply unbelievable,” said Bob Fisher, owner of the legendary Ice House comedy club in Pasadena, Calif.
Tickets for the event include a complementary drink after the show, while proceeds will benefit and support the mission and programs of the Elkins-Randolph County YMCA
The event is sponsored by Elkins Auto, Elkins Distributing Company, Inc. and the YMCA.
