Video: Watch Bob Dylan Play “Lenny Bruce” for the First Time in 11 Years – jambands.com

On Oct. 11, Bob Dylan opened his North American tour on the West Coast at UC Irvine’s Bren Events Center, and played a single set that included his first take on “Lenny Bruce” since 2008.

The long-dormant Shot of Love track came midway through Dylan’s performance, and after the following “Early Roman Kings,” the legendary musician introduced the new members of his band, including drummer Matt Chamberlain (Pearl Jam, Marco Benevento) and guitarist Bob Britt (Leon Russell, the Dixie Chicks, John Fogerty). Another rarity – “Not Dark Yet” – came later, marking its first appearance on a Dylan setlist since 2012.

Earlier, Dylan started the show with “Beyond Here Lies Nothing,” a song co-written by Robert Hunter; it presumably acted as a tribute to the late songwriter, who passed in late September.
