From FronteraFest to Astronomy on Tap, plenty to enjoy on Tuesday – Austin American-Statesman

1. “Strip the Musical”

One of the main events of FronteraFest, one of Austin’s respected and longest-running performance festivals, is the premiere of “Strip,” from Texas artist Amparo Garcia-Crow. The play reveals the true stories of three iconic performers — Lenny Bruce, Josephine Baker and Candy Barr — presenting them together as one heroic tale and a timely exploration of sexual taboos, the power of femininity and freedom of speech. Garcia-Crow’s son Alejandro Rose-Garcia, perhaps best known by his musical persona of Shakey Graves, will make a special appearance nightly.

2. Astronomy on Tap

Rescheduled from last week’s ice storm, this month’s talks will focus on kilonovas, HETDEX and white dwarfs. You’ll hear all about the the seismic activity of white dwarfs, the kilonova that resulted from the collapse of two neutron stars, and the recent developments surrounding the HETDEX project at Texas’ McDonald Observatory that is studying dark matter and dark energy. There will also be trivia, Astronomy on Tap merchandise and telescopes to look up at the night sky, weather permitting.

3. “Solar” at Art Science Gallery

Noon to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Thursday-Friday, noon to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday through Feb. 15. 916 Springdale Road. artsciencegallery.com.

“Solar” is this East Austin gallery’s contribution to Print Austin, a month-long celebration of the art of printmaking. The multi-artist show features pieces in the printmaking medium that have to do with anything about the sun, whether the art is made by its solar power (as in solar printmaking, cyanotyping or printing with photosensitive inks) or is related to sun- or star-related cultural and natural history. Participating artists include Madelon Umlauf, Nicole Geary and Alisa Ochoa.

4. Bell’s Brewery Flight Night at Easy Tiger

Celebrate the yearly seasonal release of Bell’s Brewery Hopslam Double IPA. Easy Tiger is commemorating the launch with four Bell’s brews, including the double IPA made with honey. The flights are $10, and Hopslam will also be offered as a half-pint pour. The beers that will be tapped include the Wild One, a sour brown ale; Whiskey Barrel-Aged Cherry Stout, brewed with cherry juice; and Black Note, a bourbon barrel-aged stout. Each one is a limited release that won’t be around for long.
